Let’s create your confidence bank. This is a place where you can make deposits into of all the things that you are proud of, your achievements, your strengths and things you’ve done well.

As humans, we have something called a negativity bias, which means that it is easier for us to be critical and see the negative rather than the positive. And so we need to work extra hard to readdress the balance. Having a confidence bank, therefore, can be a really useful tool for you to go back to to get an extra does of positivity and reality about all the great things you do and the incredible and capable person you really are.

The most effective confidence bank is one that is written down and saved somewhere that you can come back to. So get your pen and paper (or fingers at the keyboard) ready, and start diving in to the questions and prompts below.

  • What are you Proud of?

    This about what you are proud of in your life and write them into your confidence bank. It could be who you are as a person, or things you have achieved.

  • What are your strengths?

    What are the things that make you, you? You are your gifts, your talents? What comes easily to you?

  • How would others describe you?

    What would your friends, family and colleagues say are your greatest qualities? What do people come to you with for support?

  • What have you overcome?

    What challenges and obstacles have you overcome or got through in life? What was it about you that made you get through? What strengths and qualities served you here?

As you go through the questions, keep asking yourself ‘what else’? and see how many things you can get down. You can come back to this exercise again and again and keep adding to your confidence bank.

You can also include other pieces of ‘evidence’ to support your positive thinking such as; positive feedback you’ve received, a record of an achievement/ qualification, a screenshot of a message from a friend telling you how much you’re valued. You can make a confidence bank folder on your phone or computer to store it all, which you can come and visit when you need a confidence and positivity boost.
