No More New Year’s Resolutions

Introducing a NEW way to start 2025 that will serve you all year long.

Many of us feel the pressure to set ambitious New Year’s resolutions: lose weight, save more money, showing up every single day on socials for your business. While these goals might seem inspiring at first, the excitement often fades by February, leaving us feeling overwhelmed, unmotivated, and sometimes even defeated.

But what if there was a better way to set your intentions for the year? One that is inspiring, compassionate, and adaptable? Introducing…

the Word of the Year

...a powerful alternative to resolutions that helps you create meaningful direction for the year ahead. (which won’t leave you feeling deflated and like you’ve let yourself down by the end of February).

The challenge with arbitrary goals and resolutions

Resolutions are often based on external pressures or arbitrary benchmarks, like "go to the gym 5 times a week" or "earn an extra £10,000 every quarter" These goals can often:

  • Lack flexibility: Life is unpredictable, and rigid goals can quickly feel irrelevant or unattainable when circumstances change.

  • Focus on outcomes over values: Resolutions often centre on what you want to do rather than who you want to be

  • Encourage all-or-nothing thinking: If you slip up once, it’s easy to feel like you’ve failed entirely.

This is why so many resolutions fall by the wayside. They’re not designed to be forgiving, adaptable, or aligned with your deeper values.

Why a Word of the Year Works

A Word of the Year is different. It’s a single, meaningful word that acts as your guiding principle for the year. Instead of locking you into a rigid set of goals, it helps you focus on your intentions and values, allowing you to adapt as life unfolds.

1. It creates focus without overwhelm

Your Word of the Year provides clarity and direction without the pressure of endless tasks. It serves as a gentle reminder to stay aligned with your priorities, whether you’re making decisions, setting boundaries, or reflecting on your progress.

2. It’s flexible and adaptable

Unlike resolutions, your word can evolve with you. Life is full of surprises, and a Word of the Year gives you the freedom to adjust how you apply it without abandoning it altogether.

3. It’s rooted in meaning

Your word reflects what matters most to you. Whether it’s “Balance,” “Courage,” or “Joy,” it represents a value or mindset that feels deeply personal. This connection makes it easier to stay motivated and consistent throughout the year.

4. It encourages progress, not perfection

Rather than focusing on what you achieve, your word helps you focus on how you show up. It’s about progress, growth, and intention—not perfection.

5. It keeps you grounded all year long

When life gets busy or overwhelming, it’s easy to lose sight of your goals. A Word of the Year is simple and memorable, making it easier to reconnect with your intentions whenever you need to.

How to Choose Your Word of the Year

Selecting your Word of the Year is a reflective process. Here are a few prompts to guide you:

  • Reflect on the past year: What worked well for you? What challenges did you face?

  • Consider your values: What matters most to you right now?

  • Visualise the future: How do you want to feel at the end of the year?

  • Brainstorm words: Write down any words that resonate with you—then narrow them down to the one that feels most meaningful.
