Reconnecting with our five senses
Are you always thinking about what next? What’s next on your to do list? what you’ve got to do later? What’s coming up next week, next month? It can be overwhelming to be always thinking forward, and can even stop us from really enjoying and experiencing the current moment. This tool is a short exercise to help us reconnect with what’s going on right now, and really feel grounded in the present again
Start by taking a big deep breath in through your nose and out through your mouth, and now take your time to notice…
Five things that you can see
Four things you can hear
Three things you can feel
Two things you can smell
One thing you can taste
This is an exercise to do with ease, there is no rush.
There is no-judgement on what you’re noticing, there is no right or wrong here.
When you’re finished take another long deep breath in through your nose and out through your mouth.
How are you feeling?
What did you notice?
You can do this exercise absolutely anywhere, whether you’re on the train on your way to work, waiting for the kettle to boil, or after you’ve just opened your emails in the morning. Just spending even two minutes to do this exercise can support you to feel calmer and more present.
I invite you to try it out, and see what happens…
