How Can I UntaNgle My Thoughts?

When we are going through any period of change, whether it is change that we can driven, or whether that change has been imposed on us, there can be a whirling myriad of different thoughts, emotions, beliefs, hopes and fears about what is happening and what the future will hold.

Often, we can find it difficult to think clearly about the situation, and acknowledge opportunities and positives, because we may be being driven by our emotions (sometimes even when we don’t recognise it). For example our worries that our needs may not be met can keep us from thinking constructively about strategies to minis risk or maximising benefits.

This framework of change analysis, helps us to untangle each of the these strands, it helps us to dedicate time to each of these aspects in turn, so we can make sense of them and think constructively around them to get much more clarity and ownership over the situation and how we’d like to manage the change moving forward.

I’ll invite you to use the framework below as a way of processing your thoughts, feelings and concerns. You can either write it down, think about them in your head, or speak to a trusted person around each of these areas.

This framework is adapted from Jenny Bird & Sarah Gornall, 2016
